“Bug” is a multi-media learning device designed to get kids engaged in the fundamentals of computer science and programming skills. This proof-of-concept student project was shown at the Department of Design’s 2014 Spring Exhibition.
With this design, users can connect their physical models to a game-based application on a mobile device or PC, which enables them to program the model by giving it unique characteristics and personalities. The gameplay within the app is designed to help users learn fundamental programming concepts in order to unlock new features for the physical model. The aim of “Bug” is to teach the next generation to think of their media in new and creative ways while encouraging them to become generators of media rather than just consumers of it.
